I would like the ability to specify the minimum age (e.g. "18").

I can set the "from" year, e.g. the latest year that someone can be born (e.g. 1990), but this still means that unless it is December 31st, people in that year whose birthdays are after today's date are 17 years old.

I can also choose to have the "I am over 18 years old" checkbox, but this is really silly to even ask since we have already got their bithday.

The code should be able to do a simple test of how old the person is, and simply give an error message if they are not at least the minimum age.

Of course "minimum age" should be a setting configurable in admin (e.g. for admins that want to set for example 0 or 16 or 18 or 21).

I agree, actually the system minimum age is 19 and we ask in registration form if member is at least 18  Grin I think admin should be able to change minimun age to 18

Hello guys

You are able to change min age via Admin panel. If your birthdate field is matched with age_range field, then you need to change the range of years for birthdate field. And this change will be applied to min age for age_range field. For exam if you set birthdate interval from 1910 to 1990, then the min age will be 80.
If your birthdate and age_range fields are not matched, then you need to set min age in age_range settings

1) Where can you set the minimum age?
2) Does this REALLY make it impossible for people to sign up whose 18th birthday is in the same year specified?  (e.g. if you say minimum age is 18, then the dropdown will not allow birth years later than 1990 (2008 - 1990 = 18), but it still means that in September 2008, it still means that people who were born in October 1990 are not yet 18, but are allowed to enter 1990 as their birth date)

Hi brusselsshrek.
1. You can set the minimum age in the profile field "Birth date" in the table "birth date - year interval".

2. Your new users can set their birth dates only from available years in the drop down menu with birth date age interval.  System does not check months and days. So you can limit age range only by years.

That is EXACTLY what I said that was possible (i.e. set the "From" year), but is EXACTLY what I explained is NOT good enough for setting the minimum age, since it is ONLY on a year basis and takes no account of the REAL age.

This is USELESS if a site really wants to restrict age for legal-type reasons such as REALLY restricting a site to people 18 years old and over.

I therefore return to my original point: it SHOULD be possible to set a minimum age for the site.  That minimum age must be what I say, a minimum age, not the current "year which includes the minimum age of the person".  i.e. if I want to specify 18 as the minimum age, then the system can enforce that.

It's not rocket science.  The current implementation (where you can restrict the birth year) may be easier to implement, but I don't think it's beyond you Skalfa folks to make it possible for a site to ACTUALLY specify a minimum AGE (rather than a minimum BIRTH YEAR).

Answer: Thank you for backing.
I discussed this suggestion with our CTO and we decided that it is individual improvement. I am going to explain you why. First of all this custom checking of the profile field won’t be useful for all types of web sites which use our software. We have a lot of customers with different web sites. Some of them do not need this thorough check. Then this profile field is not required by the base and admin can move it to any pages of the registration.

This suggestion has been agreed as wanted by myself, Skallywags, Easton.  There are probably other admins who would also be glad to have it but have simply not posted here.  So I don't understand the idea of making this an "individual improvement".

Of course not everyone will want or need this feature, but to suggest it's some sort of feature which is particularly unique to one or two users is to me absurd.  The "minimum age" as a feature which everyone should have acces to is a no-brainer to me.

It makes me wonder what the point of this "Feature Suggestions" forum is, if you reject the most obviously generally useful features.

I agree that this should be a standard feature especially since your software currently supports multiple profiles to accommodate couples and other 'erotic' features which really do require by law in most areas that you qualify the user as at least 18 if not 21. This really gets into the legal issues with your software if there is a legal statute to abide by for the site content. I don't understand why it would be so difficult to require a full birth date in general and make it optional but most adult dating/social sites require this so Skadate should follow the industry standard. I don't think it's much to ask or hard to deliver.

Hi folks.
Glad to read your posts.
So I talked to our CTO again and we found that if we do this improvement then it will solve two issues:
1.  The minimum age setting.
2. You won't need to change the minimum age range in the birth date field every year.

We decided to recode the current birth date field's settings where you set the minimum age range in the way where you will be able to set just the setting "the minimum age" i.e. 18 years old. During the registration the configuration will count if a user is 18 years aold already or not. The user won't register his/her profile if he/she is not 18 years old. It will count years, months and days. I guess this way was requested by the topic starter.
Also as I mentioned above this recoding will solve the problem with changing the minimum age range every year.  You won't need to to do it again because the configuration of the minimum age will take care of it.
I hope this change will cover your needs.
I will move this thread into the confirmed changes for SkaDate 7.
Thank you all for your participation.
