I am a new poster and relatively new Skadate site admin. It looks like most of the things I would recommend have been touched on. I did not see a couple of ideas that I think would make the software better.
Articles
Articles can be a simple addition. It can be set up similar to a blog where people can comment on what is written. I think it can be set up where either the admin chooses who can post articles or allow anyone to do it. Or have a combination of that idea where you can have featured writers and then allow members to post articles themselves under different categories.
The more interactive we allow the site to be, the more people will stay on the site and be willing to pay for the service.

Hello Brian!
It seems that we already have discussed article improvement.
In new version we will replace press by admin blogs feature. Blogs are more usable and understandable for members. Admin will be able to post his own blogs, these blogs will appear on the index page (optional) and other members will be able to comment on them and subscribe to feeds.

I don't think it's a good idea to replace Press Function for Blogs..... Blogs and Press should be separate Functions. Every other dating software i know have a separate Function for Blog and Articles. The Problem here is to improve Press Function. Press is currently basic and just need some minor improvements to bring some life to it.
Please note: There is a Move for Blog Improvement...... here other admins can suggest features for Press Improvement.

A site that I think has a real good Articles section is Adult Friend Finder. They actually label it Magazine which I think could be a name for us to use as well. But, they utilize the blog function for members to post articles as well as they have "guest" writers that write about specific topics. You can view how they have it set up by logging into their site. You can view it without being a paid member. www.adultfriendfinder.com |

Ok i see Brian, using Blogs as Article works fine on friendfinder.com.... This will be a good addition to Skadate 7.

After weighing "dev time"/"user experience"/"value" ratio we have decided to improve Articles section (which is called Press in SkaDate). We will add comments and "News block" with latest articles headlines/previews for index page. That should effectively solve the task Brian speaks about. What do you guys think?

This is exactly what i proposing instead of using Blog.... Your Idea, Emil, is an Excellent one i agree with it 100%.
Another thing, if you can add a Thummail Image on Index Page if image was with the Article posted.
Now Blogs can be used for it's primary function and Blog is slated for Enhancement as well

Emil,
I think your proposal would suffice. However, I think that when I hear press, my mind thinks more of information strictly about the site or business. When I think of articles I think of users writing on relevant topics that fit into the market of the dating site.
After going back and looking at the press in (mid thought) I like what it has to offer. I think if the suggestions Emil are implemented it could work nicely. But, I would like to have the option to call it articles instead of press just as a personal preference.
Easton, you can actually add images in the press section. The one post I placed in my press section has a picture. In fact I was wondering why this feature was available in press and not in the forum.

Brian, you can change Press to Articles using the Language Feature.

Hello Emil,
Is it possible to have members submit article with or without photo for Admin Approval to be Included in Press Function? In addition to Admin written articles, it would be great for members to submit articles with photos and other members can comment on it. A suggestion here is for:
>Members to copy their written article from Microsoft Word for example and Paste it in a Submit Form on site and members can attach an Image with article(optional). This will be submitted to Admin for Approval and post in Press Area.

Guys,
"Press" feature is only for administrators to write news and other materials for site members. Thus this feature needs to be highlighted on index page, I think everyone will agree.
A blog is a place for every member to write their own articles on any given theme. Blogs can be read from the "blogs" page, from a member's profile, and also from a blogpost selection box on index page. Blog content approval interface is due in later revisions.
Changing terms is not needed since everyone can have their own labels (making changes in language admin interface). Does that sound reasonable?

That was my initial thought of the Press feature which is also why I originally suggested that there be an article / magazine section. The article section can be a feature where selected writers can post articles of interest to the site and members can respond to the articles.
The best example of this feature is what I mentioned before that is on Adult Friend Finder. If you log on to their site and view the "Magazine" section. This is the feature I am referring to. This can very easily be done with the blog function, but have it under a section entitled Articles or Magazine.
I think this is a very attractive feature.
