When you are writing a letter within admin, the "Letter vars", such as {$profile_username} should be clickable.  When you click they should go into the letter where the cursor is.  Currently you have do a fiddly copy/paste of the text, which is really silly.

Yes Yes this is a problem, I agree with this suggestion....

just too tedius and time consuming to copy/paste
