Guys,

Too much flame here Wink

Adden advised you that simple solution to solve your need to avoid ad blockers. Sure it's not a "self-hosted" version" or something just a quick fix of your problem.

Yes, we did take measure to improve server performance and if it's not in question (for long hopefully) you can use the hosted version, the only one existing for now.

The only dark hidden agenda to make us want hosted-only version at this moment is much worse than anything you suggested: we don't have enough time to devote to this free product. Originally developed for Skalfa needs by me, and then enriched with public interfaces for you by one guy from SkaDate team, it's still  not our main project although proved to be useful.

We can't support 2 versions for now, I will be glad if we maintain one (the hosted) somewhat efficiently, so we can only implement new functionality quickly and throw a blog post with news without generating a new revision archive with changelogs, installation manual, howtos, and such.

We spent some time to implement HTML code banners, too - you can already use it for affiliate ads. Unfortunately, it seems technically impossible for it to also support JavaScript ads (cough adsense? cough). Maybe we'll find solution for that, too.

I totally agree with you Emil... your reason is much darker than anything we came up with.  Maybe you can elaborate on what Adden is trying to explain?   From what I can tell the information Adden provided would redirect traffic away from my self-hosted environment to your STILL slow servers.  Can you explain how it will NOT do this?

Adden's method will only fool adblockers making it look like ad script is pulled from the same server, not ads.skalfa.com. It will still go to our ad server to serve the ads. Realistically, I don't see us getting busy with self-hosted version of Skalfa Ads, it's more probable to work on the single-server version and solve its performance problems if any again.

I see... OK Emil.  So we are in complete understanding... Are you saying that your definition of "Self-hosted" for your Skadate software (not the utility of Skalfa Ads) has no connection with Skadate?  A true definition would be completely disconnected yet there is no way to completely be disconnected from Skadate is there?

I believe we're not talking about SkaDate here. SkaDate is available in both hosted and self-hosted versions. Skalfa Ads is only available in hosted version.

Well for comparison purpose and for the future of SELF-HOSTED readers who feel as I DO that SELF-HOSTED should afford the option of COMPLETE disconnect from any other server.  So that in itSELF it is SELF and not RELIANT or DEPENDANT on another server.... you know... SELF-HOSTED.

I understand you are not offering the Slafla Ads utitlity at this time to be SELF-HOSTED.

My question is... SELF-HOSTED should have the option of "disconnecting" from Skadate.  Your admin panel should have an option to DISCONNECT from any connection to Skadate so that the software it TRULY SELF-HOSTED and not reliant on a connection to your server. PERIOD.

I'll place a copy of this suggestion in the appropriate board too.
