The fact here is that a number of advertisers don't necessarily have a website and would like to advertise on our site. The Classified Function is a great feature to compliment the current Banner Advertising section. This Classified Function could be for Admin-only(members are not allowed to post ads). An example would be, I as admin could make an arrangement with an advertiser for say like a clothing store. This advertiser could post his/her Flyer Ad with text for a fee. This arrangement is different from Banner Placement as the advertiser don't have a website. I have a number of advertisers who don't have a website but have flyers that they will normally post in a Newspaper, magazine etc.

A list of fields could be:
> Advertiser's Company name
> Advertiser's Address
> Advertiser  Email address, phone number, fax if any.
> Advertiser Logo, Product/Service, Product description, Price, Flyer if any

All these information would be input by Admin-only after payment arrangement is confirm with Advertiser.

Creative ways of making money should be given to Admins who are running a 100% Free Dating site. Most admins can't rely on Affiliate Program and Google Adsense to make money. In fact this suggestion is an improvement of the Banner Placement feature to expand to small advertisers who don't have websites....

Adding a Classified Function is a simply process. Are you suggesting that other admins who would like this feature should use Blog instead? Ridiculous!! I run a 100% Free dating site and currently have over 5000 members with 5-10% created a Blog. what are you asking me to do, sir? I can't understand why you suggesting not to have this feature since it's for Admin-only use and it's valuable for other admins to earn extra cash. To be Frank, a Classified Function is simple to implement.

Just to inform you that Emil promise on February 13, 2008 in an announcement to have Classified Function as part of Skadate 7 release.... please care to read his announcement here,  http://www.skalfa.com/press/doc/news.  Hence, the company, Skadate sees it necessary to implement Classified Function as a valuable feature for Skadate 7.

Guys,

Thanks for sharing ideas.

Dating and social networking areas are different by definition but they do overlap greatly in terms of features. The majority of sites powered by SkaDate are hybrids, not purely dating or social networking ones. That is why we need to develop what's new out there because it helps you guys better.

Sure, SkaDate dev team is not so big so setting right priorities is a mission critical task. With SkaDate 7 we chose to concentrate on improving core features including all the shortcomings and bottlenecks as evidenced and reported so far. I am yet in doubt that the first SkaDate 7 revisions will have any new features at all, but I promise that it will be a new platform with the major issues resolved.

Expect SkaDate 7 to introduce:

- reworked existing features generally based on your feedback;
- reworked templates, in fact, SkaDate will look completely different;
- smart caching for better performance;
   ... which is good for your users thus for you, too.

- completely new template engine and no-coding template customization;
- system changes resulting in more readable and robust code for faster development and programming modification;
   ... which means easier maintenance, faster updates, and faster (thus cheaper) programming modifications.

This will make a better platform for further development of optional features like promised classifieds, and such. Of course such things can't go before general improvements.

No deadlines yet since we are deep in system-wide changes and tech talks now.

Thanks.

Thats great to hear - like any thing to key to great success is a strong, stable and efficient platform. Getting the core foundations right has to be the number one priority this will secure the long term growth and development of the product !!!  Smiley

Not trying to open up a can of worms here but classified feature may be nice if implemented like craiglist.com or better yet kijiji.com(ebay owned). There would be benefit to have users stay in your site and come to your site for personals ads and other classified within the community versus linking them out to these other sites. Of course you can always set them up as adlinks or affiliates I guess. I just think it would be nice to have it as a site feature down the road. Maybe Skalfa should consider their own site and allow Skadate and Wackwall to incorporate as feature....just throwing out ideas/thoughts...I personally like kijiji and it may be bests to work with them to setup as affiliate or link ad and get revenue.

The http://www.kijiji.com/ may well have great features, be a wonderful site and so forth, but I don't believe the features have ANY place in SkaDate.

If Skalfa want to produce a SkaAds site, which has nothing to do with dating, fine.

I believe a key part of success on the internet is SPECIALISATION and doing EXTREMELY well just ONE thing.  In the case of SkaDate, I want to see focus ONLY on dating functionality, and this whole classifieds thing has, in my view, NOTHING to do with dating.

Skadate is not only about dating, its also about social networking(building online communities). There is a reason why BooneEx is the most popular dating/social networking software, simply because of its variety of features/options. Sir, i truely believe Classified is a wonderful feature for Skadate and like any other feature suggested here, Classified can be OPTIONAL.

OK, let's look at your two points Easton.

1) BoonEx is probably the most popular software, because it's free, rather than because of its variety of features.  When, earlier this year, I was doing a serious study of the different software available to run a dating site I considered BoonEx (Dolphin 6.0), and I concluded that it was rubbish, and that SkaDate was a far better product, which is why I'm here.  And one of the reasons I think it's rubbish, is because they did a lot of things poorly, in particular the dating thing, whereas SkaDate does the whole dating thing very well, and most of the other things (forum, etc.) are currently so poor that many people just switch them off.  If you think that BoonEx is so great, go with BoonEx.

2) SkaDate is about Online Dating and Social Networking.  Classifieds has NOTHING to do with these things!  My view as an admin is that I do NOT want classifieds, because I see them as completely irrelevant to dating, and that I do NOT want Skalfa wasting valuable development time on them.  It has nothing to do with dating or social networking.  The idea that it is "OPTIONAL" misses the point: developing classifieds (to any degree other than complete rubbish) is a serious development commitment, and I would rather Skalfa use that development time to:
a) deliver more and better dating functionality
b) delivering the planned new version 7 functionality sooner rather than later

There's no magic in development: if you are working with a finite development team (which I suppose Skalfa are), when you add function (such as classifieds), this will mean you can either deliver the next release later (groan!), or with worse quality (groan!).  You CANNOT have more function for free.

If I have the choice between more and better dating functionality OR classifieds, I want more and better dating functionality.

If I have the choice between more and better dating functionality and classifieds OR just more and better dating functionality but delivered earlier then I choose for the earlier delivery.
