I like the new "full-size" photos option, but I have a big problem with it: it MUST be at least usable on ALL screen sizes.  As it is, it is not, since very small screen sizes don't get to see the 'close' link, and have no way at all of scrolling to it.

I know that the "full-size" size is configurable within admin, but the problem is, no matter how small you set things (unless you set it so small as to be ridiculous), there are always going to be people with a smaller screen size, or a smaller window size.  The problem is there is no way you can set things so they look great on a big screen, without making things unusable on a very small screen.

I tried it on a screen 800 x 600 and it is unusable.

Attached is an example showing a site where they have an almost identical function, but the pop-up ALWAYS adjusts itself.  Also attached is the SkaDate version which shows how unusable this is.

Can you fix this?

What was the width and height for full sized photos set in your admin panel?

Adden,

It doesn't matter what the setting is.  WHATEVER setting I select is wrong.  Either the "full-size" is absurdly small, or if it's big enough to be useful, then it makes it unusable on small screens.

The point is for all reasonable settings it MUST still be usuable on ALL screen sizes.

Just to confirm there is also a differnece in how this works in Vista and XP  as the versions of IE7 between Vista and XP are different please see my numerous posts on this ...

This is a great function that just needs a bit o tweaking to get it right ....

Our most popular screen res 1024 x 768 - which I am guessing is laptop .. which lets face most people will be using .. SKADATE should take all these factors into consideration when developing ...

OK, I have now been through the ticket system, and it seems there is no problem particularly with my system.  It is, shall I say, "broken as designed".

To return therefore to what I originally said: I like the new "full-size" photos option, but I have a big problem with it: it MUST be at least usable on ALL screen sizes (see attachment for example of where it becomes broken for users with small screens).

Note that I am not saying it should look as good on a small screen, but I am saying that it cannot and must not be BROKEN on a small screen.

The only solution currently offered is for admins to make the "full-size" photos window as small as the smallest possible window users use (which rather defeats the object of "full-size"), or to accept that it will be broken for users of small windows but that these 'only' constitute around 5% of users - I was shown http://www.w3counter.com/globalstats.php (this makes me furious!!  why should I accept that a function is BROKEN for 5% of my users?!?).

I am proposing that it is either:
a) done as in http://netto.tijd.be/geld_en_gezin/sparen_en_beleggen/De_10_beste_aandelen_ooit.7900132-1768.art (click on the photos of the richest men under the title "De rijkste mensen ter wereld") and you will see that no matter how small you make the window, the window that pops-up resizes to fit
b) simply opens a new page! (how simple is that!)

I am offered the second solution by Skalfa for a fee.  But I believe this is a feature which is "broken as designed" and a solution should be made to work for ALL sites.

What do you think other admins?
