I have had a few spammers/scammers Shocked on my site, and one of the characteristic features is that they first seem to blast every male member (they are always so far females) with an identical mail.

If we, in admin, had the option to display a "mails sent total" column (with the new "define which column you'd like to see" feature  Wink), and also with the ability to sort asc/desc (with the new "sort by any column" feature  Wink), we'd have a very quick way of spotting quickly these spammers/scammers.

I dont necessarily agree with this suggestion because it's not the best solution for a bigger Skadate problem. The problem here is that Skadate Software is allowing members with similar email address to sign up. This should never be the case. Also members are allowed to sign up with Invalid email address. For example, i dont have an email address for easton@hotmail.com but yet still i can sign up on site with easton@hotmail.com. There should be a system to check the validity of an email address. By validity means that the member actually sign up on YahooMail, MSNmail and so on for an email account.

I think this would help admins to see what is going on, especially if you could sort by "number of mails sent" column.  I'm not saying there aren't other methods too which would ALSO be helpful for helping to track down and spot scammers.

Hi brusselsshrek

Answer: There is a section called "Profile Messages Filter" in the admin are where you can manage multiple messages with the same content from a user.
If you go to that section you will see 5 columns: Sender, Recipient, Received, Subject, Text.
You can delete or approve messages.

Hi Easton
"I dont necessarily agree with this suggestion because it's not the best solution for a bigger Skadate problem. The problem here is that Skadate Software is allowing members with similar email address to sign up. This should never be the case."

Answer: It is impossible. When you register a profile with the email which already used by another member you will get an alert message : "Sorry, this email is already used" and you will be asked to enter another email and confirm it.
You can check it on our demo: http://www.skadate.com/demo/

"Also members are allowed to sign up with Invalid email address. For example, i dont have an email address for easton@hotmail.com but yet still i can sign up on site with easton@hotmail.com. There should be a system to check the validity of an email address. By validity means that the member actually sign up on YahooMail, MSNmail and so on for an email account."

Answer: We have a simple RegExp checking in that field. It is used on many web sites. You can change it in the admin area/Profile fields.
It is impossible to make this kind of validations otherwise if there would be such system it could overload the web site. If you mean signing up with your Yahoo's or MSN email and importing contacts from your address book then let's wait for other customers' requests.

The "Profile Messages Filter" is not at all what I am proposing.  The filter STOPS messages getting through based on CERTAIN CRITERIA (e.g. the words "hotmail.com", "money"), and then you can approve/delete these messages.  It is not intended to stop and approve ALL messages.  Neither does it give you a view at all of the HISTORY of the number of messages sent by any particular user.

What I am proposing would allow people to see simply HOW MANY messages any particular user has sent, and would thus help spot spammers/scammers (who typically send 10 times the normal amount).

Could you please be specific? If it is possible make screen shots of how it should look like where it should be located. Thank you for your cooperation.

Attached is a suggestion of how it might look.  Spot the probable scammer/spammer?

Of course, it would be even better if we can then click on the number and see what the actual messages are which have been sent.

Easton,

I'm not sure i understand you. if a user signs up with an email that technically does not exist, then how will they be able to get into the site if you require an email verify? They will never get the verification request.

Brusselshrek,

We use the filter system, by entering the alphabet and numbers system 0-9 so that all emails get flagged and have to be approved for content before passing to the recipient. We do this so that FREE users cannot send mail with contact information bypassing a subscription. You may think that this is complex, but it works for us in weeding out the spammers. A promise we keep to our loyal customers. For members who want a more immediate exchange of contact, then they should use the IM system.

Hi everyone.
I agree with David.
We have the message filter system which can help you to stop spam messages by approving or deleting them in the admin interface.

There is a thread with the third party services which can help you to stop spam and scamon your web site. I see only one post by Easton. Please check into it and leave your thoughts:  http://www.skalfa.com/boards/ideas-exchange/third-party-services-image-services-prevent-spam-and-scam-background-check-t630.0.html

The system for trapping e-mail messages is one part of the fight against spammers/scammers.

I am suggesting a different and complementary system, which does not need any extra 3rd party software, and which looks at spam in a different way.  By trapping ALL email messages as David suggests is one solution.  My suggestion ALLOWS all emails through but then looks at how many emails have been sent as a guide to who is sending spam which can then be examined in more detail.

I don't think it's helpful to discuss this as an EITHER/OR question.  I think it would be helpful to know how many emails any particular user is sending.  The question is: do other admins think that this would be a useful thing to know or not (since in my view and experience a person sending a lot of emails is probably a spammer and needs investigation)?

Tim,

Profile Message Filter does NOT work properly..... i set the keywords to be " @ 1234567890"  and it is Filtering Messages Text without those Keywords. This is frustrating because members can not read their email messages until i approve it and i dont have the time to spend all day approving messages. I run a 100% Free website. So the Profile Message Filter should only Filtered Messages with the specific Keywords included.

Please check!!

Hi brusselsshrek.
Thank you for your suggestion. I guess it is interesting way to define spammers.
What do you think Easton and David?

Hello Tim,

In reference to my post.... can you explain?

I don't understand how Skalfa poorly develop a Feature/Function( Profile Message Filter) then ask Admins to pay (contact support department) to improve it..... Ridiculous!!

Ok, now the Forum Function is poorly developed by Skalfa, will you be asking Admins to pay to improve it.

Hi Easton.
This is the section for feature suggestions only so if something does not work  or you have issues with settings I would highly recommend that you contact our support department. Because it is support department's prerogative to check this kind of issues. If there is our blemish and a feature does not work as it should be by default then it has to be fixed on your web site and added to the next build.
If you want to improve or suggest a feature then you have two ways:
1. You can suggest a feature here in this section
2. Or you can order a modification if you do not want to wait when the suggested featured will be developed and available.

Maybe I did not get the point that you suggested an improvement for the feature. If yes  then accept my apologies. Let's start again if the thread is about the Profile Filter Message then provide us with more details where you can show that the feature can be improved in a special way which will be useful for the other administrators, members and your networks in whole.
