I'm paying three monthly fees for Chuppo, Chuppo Recorder, & UserOn, but I'm considering cancelling UserOn and Recorder for the following reasons:

1.  Despite much encouragement from admin, members don't use the recorder.  My membership prefer to message and instant message.
2.  UserOn slows the pages down, and isn't synchronised with the Who's Online page.  This confuses people and they don't trust the results any more.

Do you use these features?  How have you managed to get your members to use them and what are your opinions on these features?

The chat rooms don't get much use either.  I suspect this is due to the type of niche but I find it odd that people who join a dating/social site don't want to chat.

Even the forums are getting quieter!  Maybe it's the warm weather in the UK.  I saw this last summer when people spent less time on their computers, but the forum pages aren't as good as many other software types out there, and I think the combination of slow page loading and too much functionality has discouraged people.  I think it may be time to clean up and the site and remove redunant functions like Recorder and UserOn.

Recorder seems to be a very nice feature. If a member wants to represent himself or leave some message he can record it. All members will see it. And there is no need to be on the site all the time. Do you have any ideas why members do not use it? Probably this service needs some promotion?

As for UserOn we are aware of the problem. And we are going to make it smaller so it will not take so much time to download. Soon this will be fixed.

Well, I don't see the point in User-on anymore. There are sometimes many members online, but only one or two in the User-on panel.  To the newcomer this can seem like a dead site when in fact there are plenty of people online.

I think it's time to pull the plug on User-on . . . Sad

Well, may be when your site has 20 or more real online users, the useon will be a good tool?

That's just my point.  There often are multiple users online but Useron only shows a few.

Your support desk has told me that this is because of the Cron job (currently set to 30 mins) which updates the online status of members who've recently logged in, but I can't reduce that any further because people who are just reading a screen or composing a mail (i.e. not actually moving the mouse or changing screens) will get logged out too soon.

You can't have it both ways.  Either the Who's Online page is inaccurate, or the Useron panel is inaccurate.

Hmm... UserOn was writen by Flash technology. And flash allow to detect real online users in browser. I mean if member will close browser only then he will be logged out from UseOn list, but he will still stay on whois online page. The reason why Useron detect real online member is follow: to make Private Chat more real. Is it good when member try to open IM with logged out members? He will never get response in this way.
Maybe the problem is that there too little real online members on the site. So, in this case, the best way not to use such flash app and enable it when you will have enough real online users.
What do you think?
