Hi guys,

I'm currently reviewing the SkaDate software prior to purchase.

I just wanted to see whether there are many users who have customised the base product much and what their experiences of this are as there are some changes I would need to make on the script.

For example, the profile editing lets users add their own html however for me it should also have a toggle option that provides a GUI field so that users can just copy and paste straight from other websites, or edit directly within the field (as with this field in this forum). Clearly not everyone understands html but most people know how to use an editor.

Anyone tried this sort of thing (or maybe there's an option i've not yet seen)?

Looking forward to hopefully becoming an active member of the boards.

regards
Marcus

Hello baxter!

Every profile has an option to insert his custom HTML code, which he can take on other sites (like Youtube). Also profile can upload his own image or insert image link and set it as his page's background.
Please, contact our support team for more info.

Hope to see you as an active member of this board Smiley

Thanks

Thanks - I'll work out how to do this when I purchase.

One thing that is critical is the "Match" functionality - I've tested on the demo site and can't seem to get it working. Could anyone confirm that this definately works please?

many thanks

As far as I'm aware it works fine.

It is only really relevant if you send out automatically match e-mails; I have chosen not to currently do so until the numbers of profiles on my site reaches a certain critical mass.

The other thing is that currently there is no way for members to unsubscribe from match e-mails.  This though I think is due to be fixed in the new release (due today?).  Someone else correct me if this is due in the v7 release.

This software company (for all the bitching I do about it's bugs, response times, customer service etc... ) is actually going to meet a lot of your needs Baxter I have no doubt.  These folks have designed and updated the software better and better each time! With our feed back they've done an amazing job of reading our posts on here and listening to our desires and incorporating them into the most current updates... in fact you're right... your time is great! We decided to BUY the software to self-host but the software company can also host it for you.   If this company keeps on track by incorporating our needs (their clients) I think eventually SkaDate will be a TOP RATED social networking / online dating / etc software company.

Harley - you are such a 'brown nose' - PMSL .... but yes the software is good bordering on excellent and most importantly STABLE (I am going to regret saying that - lol) - if it wasnt we would have voted with our feet long before now ...  Cool

Thanks for the welcome guys. I've had some time to dig into the software now and whilst functionality wise it looks spot on, I have to say customising the look and feel of it does not seem easy.

For you guys who are not using the standard templates - how did you do it? I'm fairly comfortable with html and can read php, but reviewing the layouts/ folders there are hundreds of files everywhere. Looks like I need to become an expert in css?

I've been quoted $xxxx's by Skadate to develop a design for me which seems way over the top. So, my question was - how did you do it? Is everyone on here a developer, do you have a developer working for you, am I missing something really obvious? Huh

For my site I did a small amount of customisation of the layouts - enough to make a huge difference to the visual impact to users, but not enough to cost me an arm and a leg.  I too got a quote for a new layout ($2500) which, while it may be valid for a completely new layout, was at least 10 times what I was really wanting to pay.

Soooo....I started with one of the existing layouts - the rather sexual "Rosen Red" layout - and made a few very minor changes to create what I think is a very different "look".  I removed the naked lady propped up at the side (my HTML/php was enough to do this) - not that I have anything against naked ladies you understand (!), but for my site I'm after a more "boy/girl next-door" image.  I paid (using http://elance.com) to have a designer do a new front page (out with a photo of an almost naked couple having serious snogging, and in with a photo of a suave looking fully-clothed couple), paid for someone else to put my logo everywhere, and that was about it.  All for a very small amount.

So, my recommendation would be: carefully choose which existing template is closest to what you want, and get someone to make small changes with big impact.

Hope this helps.

Yep - as I thought. Well, I'd better start getting my head around it then and seeing what I can do. I've got a developer lined up but didn't really want to go down that route.
Thanks for the advise

I am new to this site and have a new site that has been up for about 1 month. I agree, finding the right objects to change can be time consuming and very hard. I FTP'd every file from the server to my extra hard drive and then started looking at most of the code. It is very time consuming. I wish SKADate would have created a manual that explained what each object does. I have made many changes to their code but it took a while to find the code.
