When you set the "Admin->Global Configuration->AutoMode->Allow not reviewed profiles to use site" to false, it means that people cannot CHANGE there profiles without forcing a review.

What I want is only that NEW profiles are reviewed.

It seems I cannot force only totally new profiles to be reviewed but allow changed profiles to have more freedom.

To me this is a problem since I want to force all NEW profiles to be reviewed by me, but when I set this "Allow not reviewed profiles to use the site" to false, then whenever anybody makes changes to their profile then they instantly lose access!  This will just stop people from ever changing their profile.

Anybody else have this problem?

Hi this  actually works OK for us ... we  are VERY tough on profile wording - BUT agree you should be able to apply a different rule for existing profiles.  Cool

brusselsshrek - I TOTALLY agree with you!  This made sense at first but then I got TONS of emails from current memebers who had change something on their profile and couldn't get in until one of our administrators "Approved" his/her changes.

The idea of not allowing a NEW MEMBER to access the site is a GOOD IDEA.

BUT! There should be a way to allow CURRENT Memebers to make modifcations without being hung up by the different criteria and scrutiny of a NEW Member.

In upcoming update we will change the order of profile list for review. The latest joined profiles will be displayed at the top. So you will be able to identify new and existing profiles for review.
Is it OK?

That's a nice idea Adden, and you SHOULD implement it... but I'm afraid it's off topic.

The issue here, is the "GLOBAL CONFIGURATION" setting and how it impacts ALL or NOTHING at all for accessing our sites, NOT the order in which the "approval" process is displayed.

Let me see if I can explain it a different way.  (Remember what brusselsshrek stated? "I want to force all NEW profiles to be reviewed by me!" before they have access to the site.)

Let's say that you own a website that runs the Skadate software OK?

You have a few hundred CURRENT members who are randomly UPDATING their "Previously Approved" profiles.

You also have a NEW Member who wishes to join your website and needs to be "Newly Approved" since they are a new member.  Let's also say this "Newly Approved" profile could be a picture of a mutilated body with worms crawling out of it and the profile description with "Zombie wants to meat you and your babies!" (Just an example)

Now I don't claim to know how every one of your Skadate customers use your software and quite honestly I don't care, but for MY website this would violate the "Terms and Conditions" and the photo would be removed and the profile "DELETED" and the IP BLOCKED.

Same issue for a website that requires a clear face picture for all members and a NEW Member wishes to join your website and uploads a picture of an automobile.

...are you getting where this is going?

"Newly Approved" memberships SHOULD NOT be able to access ANY part of the website until they are APPROVED.  "Previously Approved" memberships SHOULD be allowed to continueto access the website.

Does that make sense?  The Global Configuration "Auto Mode" "allow not reviewed profile to use site" is to BROAD for this option.

This option should be broken up into 2 parts.
  • "allow not reviewed NEW MEMBER to use site"
  • "allow not reviewed ALREADY A MEMBER to use site"

NOTE: This doesn't mean that a CURRENT member wouldn't be able to do something similar but it DOES allow the site owner to catch the LARGER percentage of folks who:

1.  Haven't read the terms and conditions and therefore should not be allowed to access the site.
2.  Have an artier motive for joining your website (IE. attack/spam your website members)
3.  Want to be anonymous for a website that doesn't allow anonymity for their membership.
4.  misunderstand what the terms and conditions for the website.
etc...
